Top 7 Steps To Become The "Real You"

By Malcolm Harvey

It's so easy to pretend to be doing or believing something when really deep down inside you know that it's not the real you.

We all try to measure up to other people's expectations for us. Parents, family, teachers, friends, community, etc. tend to try to mold us into their own image or seek to "protect" us from "bad" influences for a variety of reasons.

Most turmoil in the world is caused by one interpretation against another of seemingly the same events.

Sometimes, in fact most times, people get so wrapped up in their particular point of view that they fail or are unable to see the truth of their own positions.

Fear of change, fear of the unknown, fear of being the outsider, fear of being different - all have a part to play in keeping most of us living behind a mask.

The few who do manage to break free are either admired or ridiculed. Attempts are even made to bring them back into line so strong is the unease of the masses!

But if you desire to achieve your full potential as a human being, you must learn to break free.

You have to make the decision to be known for who you really are.

Yes, you can learn an awful lot from the people in your life, and yes, you must be grateful for the support you receive during the good as well as the bad times. But it is ultimately up to you to reach out and grab what is rightfully yours!

People are not necessarily going to applaud you for striking out on your own. They may even try to make you feel uneasy, however, if you are determined to make an impact, you have to make up your own mind.

So, how do you come out from behind that mask?

  1. Recognize the truth for what it really is.

Be open enough to accept that other people may be right. Examine your own beliefs in the light of prejudice that might have been installed by your own upbringing.

  2. Learn by your mistakes.

There cannot be any failures, there are only learning experiences. Feel blessed when things don't go right for you. You are being taught a valuable lesson.

  3. Be grateful for the experience.

Everything you have done up to now has been leading you to this moment. It's up to you if you want to learn the lessons or to go around the cycle again!

  4. Study the lives of achievers.

There are so many people who have woken up to the reality of their own existence and serve as a beacon of light to all who follow after. Study their lives...for it can act as a shortcut to your own awakening!

  5. Don't compare yourself with anyone else.

You are a unique creation. There is and will forever be only one person like you! Therefore, although you can learn from others, it is important that you realize that you are special. Don't waste the gift given to you by following everyone else.

  6. Know the universe is on your side.

The truth is that the universe acts a bit like a huge computer in the way that if you program negative things, negative things come out. However, if you put positive things in, you get positive things back.

Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened unto you. Start asking the right question and you will get the correct answer!

  7. Don't get caught up in dogma.

Try to walk away from potential conflicts, allow other people to have their own interpretations and don't get caught up in senseless argument. Imposing your point of view, even if you happen to be right, will suck you into a hopeless circle of recrimination.

It's far better and more empowering to show by example than to attempt to change the minds of others by words!

    BONUS TIPS

    • Slow down and shut up occasionally.

Take regular time out to quiet the mind and just listen. Far greater information is available via intuition if only you would open the door

    • Accept that you cannot always know everything.

After a lifetime of questioning and searching, I now have come to the position where I'm in awe of the immensity of the universe. Many times I thought that at last I understood only to move onto an even greater understanding.

Go beyond your own ego's control of yourself and let go of the results. Your mind will expand to ever greater awareness of the possibilities!

    • Desire wisdom first and abundance will be yours!

Most people have things the wrong way around. They desire the wealth and abundance before they get the wisdom. Seek out wisdom first and the abundance that will follow might stick around longer.

However, remember that wisdom comes out of experience so don't be surprised if you find yourself on a roller coaster ride!

"Do not follow where the path may lead - Go instead where there is no path, and leave a trail."
