Top 7 Ways To Get Rid Of Employees Who Are Not Performing

By Christopher M. Knight

  1. Fire them. Seriously, I've learned that they will cost you more than the Unemployment Compensation will pull from your fund. There is nothing wrong with an employee/employer relationship that does not work out, but only the foolish continue a bad relationship.

  2. Raise standards, and do weekly written performance reviews.

  3. Help them relocate into a more suitable job elsewhere.

  4. Change their hours. Remember, you have the right to determine your employees hours, whether they like it or not. Why? Because the needs of your business require it, right? (sarcastic mode on)

  5. Demote position, and lower pay.

  6. Have a passion talk with the employee. I usually lose 1 out of every 5 employees that I have this talk with. In it, I just ask them what is really important to them, and what are they doing here, and why do they love it or hate it, and does it make sense for them, and are they really happy about what they are doing? :)

  7. Uhhhm, ask them to leave or give you their resignation.
