I think this is what good marketing does.

However, that takes some time and sadly most North American companies operate like whores: We do anything for money and we want it now.

So, they don't "waste" money on marketing, but send out an army of mercenaries with the instruction: "beat their doors down and sell them something". But this approach undermines trust which is needed to establish repeat and referral business.

Just imagine this: If you want to eat roasted elephant steak, you can either start chasing elephants all over hell’s half acre or become a watering hole and attract them. The smart elephant hunter baits and waits. He knows the beasts will come, and all he has to do is to prepare the fire, grease his frying pan and buy the appropriate wine for the best, most succulent elephant steak.
